Who We Are

What's Cooking is a service of The How To Network. This policy explains how we process personal information when you visit the site, create an account, save or publish recipes, make meal plans or dinner parties, upload content, or contact us.

Information We Collect

  • Account data: email address, display name, authentication identifiers, profile details, and account settings.
  • Content and planning data: recipes, photos, pantry and dietary preferences, saved items, grocery and weekly-plan information, dinner-party details, guest names or contact details you enter, and public author labels.
  • Messages: information you send when requesting support, corrections, privacy help, or partnerships.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, security logs, pages viewed, referral source, approximate location, and interactions.

How We Use Information

  • Provide authentication, saved content, recipe generation, planning, uploads, and public sharing features you request.
  • Secure, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve the service.
  • Respond to messages and enforce our Terms.
  • Measure site usage with Google Analytics only after you consent.
  • Comply with law and protect users, the service, and others.

Legal Bases For EU And UK Users

We process account and feature data to perform our contract with you; security, support, and service-improvement data for our legitimate interests; analytics data with your consent; and information when necessary to meet legal obligations. You may withdraw analytics consent at any time through “Cookie choices.”

Cookies And Browser Storage

Essential local storage supports account sessions, saved content, planning handoffs, and your consent choice. Optional Google Analytics cookies are blocked until you accept them. See our Cookie Policy.

Service Providers

We use Cloudflare for hosting and security; Supabase for authentication, database, and storage services; Google Gemini to generate or structure recipe and planning content; Pexels to source recipe imagery; and, with your consent, Google Analytics to measure usage. Information you submit to a feature may be sent to the provider needed to perform it. These providers process data under their own terms and applicable contractual protections.

Public Content And Other People

If you publish a recipe or author label, that information may be visible publicly. Do not submit another person's personal information, including guest contact details, unless you have their permission. Current invitation tools create drafts and do not send email or text invitations.

Sharing, Sale, And Advertising

We share information with service providers as needed to operate the service, or when required for safety or law. We do not sell personal information for money. We do not currently use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Affiliate partners may receive referral information if you choose to follow a clearly disclosed affiliate link.

Retention And Security

We retain account and user content while your account is active and as reasonably needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, meet legal obligations, and maintain security records. Retention periods vary by data type. We use reasonable safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

International Processing

Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland use recognized safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of your personal information; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; or appeal a request decision. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. We will verify requests before acting and may retain information where legally permitted.

Children

The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users who are not old enough to consent to data processing where they live should use the service only with authorization from a parent or guardian.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service changes. The date above shows the latest revision.
